Welcome to GivingPal! This privacy policy ("Policy") explains how we collect, use, secure, and disclose information with respect to GivingPal (the “Site”). We developed this privacy policy to demonstrate our commitment to protecting your privacy and to help you in understanding how we handle your personal information.

Our Privacy Principles

  1. We will never distribute, lend, share, rent, sell or give your email address to anybody, ever.
  2. We aim to provide you control of your information through privacy controls.
  3. The only exceptions to these principles are if we need to dislose this infomation to comply with the law or protect our rights in our site.

Data Collection

The term “personal information” means information that is attributed to a specific individual.  Demographic information such as date of birth, geography, and gender when linked to other personally identifiable information is considered personal information.  Identifiable information examples include name, e-mail address, and mailing address, and information about an individual’s activities on the site.

We collect personal information when you visit our Site. When you visit our web site, GivingPal automatically collects limited non-personally identifying information your browser makes available whenever you visit a website. This log information includes your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your query, the referring web site, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser so you may more easily interact with the Site. GivingPal uses cookies to provide more functionality and easier access to certain features on the Site.  Cookies help us better understand how users interact on the Site and  improve the quality of our user’s experience.  Please understand that if cookies are not enabled, or blocked, by browsers using the Site, some features, including the commission referral that raises money for a cause, may not function properly.

We use this data to operate, develop, and generally improve our Site.  In addition, we may utilize personal information for internal marketing purposes such as informing you about other products, services, events, information, and promotions we think will be of interest. For example, we may use the data we collect to: (1) welcome you to GivingPal by sending you an email and requesting feedback (2) respond to inquiries or comments on the Site (3) send you updates on your cause and activity level on GivingPal (4) complete other functions for which the data was provided.

Information Use

We do not rent or sell your personally identifying information to other companies or individuals without your consent.  
If personal identifying information is needed, it may only be shared in the following circumstances:

The law requires us and we in good faith believe that the retention, availability and disclosure of information is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of GivingPal, its users, or the public.

Aggregate information, or data that we collect about the use of the Site or about a group or category of products, services or users, from which personal information has been removed may be shared to third parties without your authorization.   This aggregate information helps us better understand trends and our users' needs so that we may improve our Site.  This Policy in no way restricts or limits our collection and use of aggregate information.

 

Security of Information

GivingPal take the security of your personal information very seriously.  We take security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of data of your account.  Additionally, we restrict access to non-public identifying information to employees who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our Site.

Disclosure of Information

Personal information that is disclosed on your profile, such as a your name, may be publicly accessible depending on your privacy level settings.  The Site has three privacy settings for disclosed information on your profile.  These settings are:  Friends (only people who are listed as friends on GivingPal can see your information),  Public (anyone can see your information).  If you choose to add your shipping address to your profile so visitors can know where to send purchased items from your wish list should send your item, an additional setting is available.  The Anyone Who Buys Me Something privacy level will only show your address to a visitor who is in the process of purchasing an item for you.  Please select the privacy level with which you are most comfortable. GivingPal is not responsible for personally identifying information a user chooses to submit.
Also, other information, like comments on other profiles, may be public depending on the user’s privacy level and subsequently collected or used by third parties. By agreeing to this Policy, you agree that GivingPal shall bear no liability should such information be disclosed by the Site or any other third parties.
By using the Site, you consent to the privacy practices described in this Policy, as modified from time to time by us.  We reserve the right to change the provisions of this Policy at any time.  We will alert you of changes by indicating on the date of the privacy policy was last updated.  Your use of the Site following the posting of such changes or revised statement shall constitute your consent to any changes in our privacy practices.  Please carefully review the Policy whenever you visit our Site so you understand our data privacy practices and can make an informed decision about using our Site.

Children Under 13

This Site is not intended for use by children under the age of 13.  GivingPal does not knowingly allow such persons to register.  Wish lists for children under 13 are exclusively intended to be created on their behalf by parents, guardians or other user 13 years of age or over, and no personal information regarding such child should be submitted directly by a child under 13.  If children under 13 wish to create a wish list, they should ask their parent or guardian to open an account and create one for them on their behalf.  If you are under 13, do not attempt to create an GivingPal account and do not provide any personal information on our web site.

Links to Web Sites

Our web site may contain links to other web sites. Any personal information you provide on the linked pages is provided directly to that third party and is subject to that third party's privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content, privacy or security practices and policies of web sites to which we link and encourage you to learn about their privacy and security practices and policies before providing them with any personal information.

Data Changes

If you delete your account or change your data or content, we usually update our live databases immediately.  However, some data may update more slowly, and some old data may remain in our archives.  Also, we may be unable to share changes to partners who receive your data or content.  If your account is terminated or suspended, we may maintain some data to prevent the re-registration of this account type.
