This integration of one of the world’s leading cancer institutes with one of the world‚ Äs leading hospitals has created one center and one clinical team ‚Äì with a unique combination of resources to fight and defeat cancer.
Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center cares for adult patients in 12 specialized centers, each devoted to a different type of cancer. Our world-renowned physicians and researchers are committed to conquering cancer by developing new ways to prevent and screen for cancer, as well as developing new therapies. Milestones include:
* Development of the CA 125 test, the first and only biomarker for ovarian cancer;
* Pioneered new approaches in the assessment and treatment of prostate cancer;
* Development of state-of-the-art surgical techniques for brain surgery.
Our Center is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of specialists including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, physicists, radiologists, interventional radiologists, endoscopists, pathologists, specialized nursing staff, dietitians, physical therapists, and social workers who use a patient-focused approach to deliver the most effective treatment for each patient.
BWH has been ranked on US News and World Report's Honor Roll of America's best hospitals for 11 consecutive years. BWH is also the only hospital in the nation to be named for eight consecutive years to Solucient's list of Top 100 Hospitals. BWH was also recently recognized by the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) for being one of five top performing academic medical centers in the country in a special quality and safety benchmarking study.
The BRI sets a new standard of research excellence through its commitment to several essential goals:
1. supporting ambitious and transformative research that will have a direct impact on creating new and better ways to treat patients and whose promise can be realized rapidly;
2. facilitating the powerful, real-time connection that takes BWH research straight from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside;
3. sparking new discoveries by providing greater opportunity for researchers to collaborate across disciplines and dissolving barriers that prevent such collaboration; and
4. offering shared state-of-the-art resources and programs that enhance the quality of life for BWH scientists and allow them to focus on their groundbreaking work.
